How you get the software
steakOS is open source and free to use. You can run it from source or from a packaged build. This page does not invent a public download mirror that is not actually online.
Channels (today)
| Channel | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Application source | The full program text lives in the project’s source repository when it is published for your group. We do not paste a fake public URL here. |
| Packaged build | A trusted machine can produce a zip with the runnable program, browser screens, install scripts, and a checksum file. Early installs often stay on a local network until a public mirror exists. |
| Public download mirror | Not claimed on this preview. When a real public mirror goes live, this page will list it. Until then, do not trust random “steakOS download” sites that appear elsewhere. |
Version: Early product builds are still in the closed-beta range around 0.1.x. We will not invent a “finished public 1.0” claim on this preview site.
What a release folder usually contains
A packaged build typically includes:
- An unpacked folder named like
steakOS-… - A zip archive plus
checksums.sha256(a fingerprint file so you can check nothing was tampered with) - Install helpers such as
install.sh(Linux/macOS) orinstall.ps1(Windows) - Sometimes a small
latest.jsonpointer so install tools know which build is current
Step-by-step install notes live with the product docs once you have a package. See also Getting started.
Before you trust a binary
- Prefer builds you (or your trusted partner) produced from known source.
- Check
checksums.sha256when a package provides it. - Change the default admin password before the machine is reachable on a shared network.
- If you find a security problem, tell us privately — see Security.
